Joaquin Portrait

Joaquín Moratillo is an illustrator born in Lima, Peru (1997), but has lived in the Andes, Mainland China, and Hong Kong. He studied Sequential Art at SCAD Hong Kong, where he was part of a team that briefly collaborated with Hasbro in the Monopoly brand. He was a researcher/ illustrator for part of a published graphic novel on the Byzantine Empire, and has freelanced designing posters, logos, and concept art. His personal work focuses on immigration and finding a home within a mixture of cultures and the recontextualization of their visual elements. It combines cultural aspects of Peruvian pre-Columbian history, Chinese calligraphy, Hong Kong-inspired settings and Chicha lettering (symbol of immigration). The union of illustration, language and writing is essential in his craft. Joaquín is currently based in the Sacred Valley.
